BEREA: Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs bought 53 tickets and chartered a bus to Omaha, Neb., so he and other Kent State fans can support the Golden Flashes in person when they face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in the College World Series.
Cribbs, a KSU graduate, said he went wild Monday night when the Flashes defeated the Oregon Ducks 3-2 in Game 3 of a Super Regional to earn their first CWS berth.
“I was getting a massage,” Cribbs said. “I jumped off the table. I felt like I was at the game. I was jumping around. I grabbed my phone, tweeting. [Strong safety] T.J. [Ward] went to Oregon. I was like, ‘We beat them seagulls,’ messing with him. I can’t get enough. They’re going to the big show. That’s what it’s all about.
“My masseuse was like, ‘Do you want me to stop real quick?’ I was jumping around. ‘They did it!’ They had me on pins and needles. I turned back from the game. They were getting me too stressed out while I was getting stretched and massaged. It was too tense. Then when [Oregon] came back, I couldn’t look. It was epic.”
Cribbs said he wanted to organize a trip to the CWS, so the Flashes would have a strong contingent of KSU fans rooting for them in Omaha. KSU will play Arkansas in Game 1 at 5 p.m. Saturday.
“I’m trying to be there to support my team,” Cribbs said. “I love that they’re giving us something to cheer for, especially during this offseason.
“It’s good for the university. Everybody is going to rally around them, all [of] Ohio. Even Akron fans were tweeting me, ‘I’m not even a Golden Flash fan,’ but they’re rooting for us anyway.”
Browns free safety Usama Young, another Kent State product, said he wants to make the trip, too.
“[Cribbs] said he was getting a bus,” Young said. “I said, ‘Make sure you’ve got room for me.’ I’m going to support.”
