Kent State sophomore punter Anthony Melchiori was one of 25 punters named to the Ray Guy Award Watch list Wednesday by The Augusta Sports Council.
Last season, the true freshman from Auroa led the Flashes punting unit to a ranking of 12th in the nation in net punting.
Serving as Kent State’s starting punter in all 14 games, Melchiori averaged 42.6 yards on 72 punts. He had 16 boots of 50 yards or more and dropped 28 of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
In addition to his punting duties, this season Melchiori is also competing for to become KSU's starting placekicker.
In early November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semi-finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 8th.
A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, to be announced on Nov. 25th.
The voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter, which will be announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Dec. 12th.
