KENT: City Council approved an ordinance Wednesday authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for the replacement of the bridge in Fred Fuller Park. The agreement would allow for the maximum use of federal funds in the amount of $968,000, with a 20-percent share to be paid by the city.
Ward 4 Councilman John Kuhar asked if it would be possible to put in a temporary gravel road to the back of the baseball field on the property. Now that the city has ownership of the former RB&W site adjacent to the construction area on Mogadore Road, Kuhar inquired if a gravel road would be a better option instead of a temporary bridge.
Other council members expressed skepticism, however, that such a plan would receive approval in time to have any effect on the project itself.
Additionally, the council also approved an agreement with the Portage County Office of the Public Defender to provide legal services to indigent individuals for the coming calendar year.
